Pause For Thought……

Central Criminal CourtLooking across London’s skyline, you can see the home of British justice, the Old Bailey.
On top of the building is Pomeroy’s magnificent golden statue of the goddess, Justicia.
In one hand she is holding the scales of justice and in the other she holds the sword of wrath.
The fact that she is blindfolded is a warning to us: no matter who we are, if we are found to be guilty, the sword of wrath must fall.

If you then let your gaze wander across the skyline a short distance, you’ll find another St Paul's Cathedral, Londongolden object, this time topping St. Paul’s cathedral. It’s a cross, and it is a powerful reminder that although the sword of wrath must fall, it fell of Jesus Christ at the Cross.
In that moment indignant cries for justice were perfectly satisfied, and in that same moment, our desperate calls for God’s mercy were lovingly answered.
And in the light of that, what should I do with my sin? Will I take it to the Cross to be forgiven, or will I take it with me to my grave, and to the judgement that must fall?
